Move For Hunger has been working hard to change the way people fight hunger in their communities. To date, the program is working with over 350 moving companies and 200 real estate professionals in 44 states across the US and now Canada! They have delivered over 700,000 lbs of food to food banks and pantries, providing over 500,000 meals for those in need.
“I met Adam Lowy (Executive Director) of Move for Hunger at the Allied Annual Conference last week in Phoenix. He’s an amazing young guy with tons of great energy and incredible passion. For the conference Adam and his brother Max organized separate raffles for the AVL and NAVL agents and had initially set targets of $10K from each van line agent group. On the final night there was lots of excitement at the Awards Ceremony as the two van lines “battled” to raise funds for Move for Hunger. In the end, the Allied group did an amazing job and raised about $55K while the NAVL agent group raised somewhat less. QMM donated $5K to the cause!” - Kevin St. George
We are very excited to be part of such a great cause and we are glad we were able to implement before the holiday season. We will be collecting any unused and non-perishable food items from our customer’s homes and donating it to the local food shelter. It’s a great cause that helps those who need it most. Check out Melissa, Barry, and Grant with our first few boxes of items we’ve already received from customers! QMM’s goal is to be #1 in Canada with donations which I am sure we will achieve!
Nov 22, 2012
QMM’s Safety Committee will be completing COR presentations as a reminder for all employees who took place in the COR training in the Spring and a full session for all new employees who did not participate in the initial training sessions. The goal of these training sessions is to educate all staff on QMM Safety Practices and to ensure we have consistent Health & Safety Procedures in all 3 offices.
Once all staff have been educated, we will be proceeding with requested an Audit so we can become COR Certified. The audit will typically cover the basic elements of our health and safety management system and will include interviews, documentation review and observation techniques.
COR is awarded to employers who develop health and safety programs that meet established standards. COR recognizes that the employer’s health and safety management system has been evaluated by a certified auditor and found to meet Partnerships standards. Achieving and maintaining a valid COR is required for earning a financial incentive through the WCB Partnerships in Injury Reduction (PIR) program. Also, it is not unusual for Alberta corporations to expect contractors bidding on contracts to hold a valid COR.

The QMM Leadership Team spent a day and a half in Las Vegas, NV with our Owner Operators earlier this month to discuss how we can “Change the Game Together.” This conference turned out to be a huge success and was a great teambuilding event for everyone! Bill Lyon, General Manager and Jason Starkey in IT from Allied showed support and stopped by for a quick presentation on new Allied Systems that our Owner Operators will be using—stay tuned for more details!
Future goals were set out and we are happy to say that a plan is being set in motion!

I would like to nominate Larry Walsh for the “Better
Together” Program.
Repeatedly, Larry has been able to provide guidance
and problem resolution out of the Calgary, AB area.
In Cross Border Operations Calgary is a difficult region
to service for you do not have an abundance of
available units.
Our latest examples of Larry’s help reflects critical
resolution with other agents in the area who could
not provide labor or move Capacity Resource Trailers
to a point in the city or US point of pick up.
In addition, Larry was able to offer guidance on US
Customs requirements to a new National Account
customer which had major difficulties getting the
order across the US Border. With the move being
rejected at the US border, Larry was able to determine
what needed to be corrected and again will be
running the trailer to a U. S. pick up point. Without
his input the move would have been rejected
again.
Larry is a good reflection of QMM and knowing Better
Together also means two countries working for a
common goal of customer satisfaction.
In my 36 summers in Operations Larry is among
my “Top 10” folk who make this position so rewarding.

Wednesday June 13 Jackie & I attended an appreciation lunch at Admiral Seymour School on behalf of the
Social Responsibility Committee. It was a very special day and I felt blessed to be a part of it. The time was
filled with music, song and laughter. We received a beautiful thank you card with a picture of all the children
and spent some time getting to know other volunteers and donors.
Friday June 22 Kevin & I attended a band performance at Admiral Seymour. Queen Alexandria’s Vice Princi-
pal, band teacher and school band took a bus from their school to Seymour where they performed in front of
Seymour students, faculty, parents and Kevin and I. The Admiral Seymour Junior & Senior bands each played
as well as doing a collaboration. Each band is new this year and did an amazing job thanks to the St James
Institute who donated instruments along with their time to
reach music lessons after school and at lunch.
This year QMM has donated over $600.00 and QMM staff has
donated over $500.00 to the kids at Admiral Seymour. We have
been doing a monthly donation of snacks, produce and grocery
gift cards as well as the money raised from the whose furniture
auction went to proving the bus for Queen Alexandria and having
shirts made for the Seymour band for their band performance.
I am pleased at all we were able to do for/with the students and
teachers at Admiral Seymour this year and I am looking forward
to another great school year next year with them! Click to learn more

From Kevin St. George to the QMM Group:
I’m extremely excited to announce that QMM has been named the Allied Canada 2011 Agent of the Year! Allied Van Lines Canada changed their awards program in 2011 and this is the first year that there will be a single recipient of this prestigious award.
The selection process includes a number of elements but is heavily weighted towards increased booking activities and quality improvement. QMM’s booking activity with Allied Canada was up more than 22% in 2011 to over $12M and our domestic quality improved in each of our locations but most significantly in Calgary where we finished 2011 with a score of 4.63 compared to 4.53 for 2010.
Please accept my sincere “thank you” for your contribution to the success of QMM. This is such a wonderful team effort – we can all be very proud!

QMM in Vancouver “adopted” Admiral Seymour Elementary school about 5 years ago. Beginning with fundraising to support their literacy program, and later to augment their intermediate library, the ties have strengthened over the years to include support of their sports teams and extra-curricular activities.
The 2011 Christmas season provided an excellent opportunity for 5 QMM employees to spend some face-to-face time with these kids. From left to right Selina Siu, Michael Gordon, Sylvia Dlugosz, Lyndsie Wilson & Melissa Humphreys spent the morning of December 8 with the Kindergarten and Grades 1, 2 & 3 classes decorating cookies. QMM supplied homemade ginger boys & sugar cookie trees along with a whole lot of icing, sprinkles and candies. Each child received two cookies - and expert culinary assistance – to personalize their own special cookie creation.

QMM Leverage their Whitecaps Sponsorship!
Whitecaps player appearances are often used for increasing exposure, driving foot traffic, improving company morale, or adding excitement to an event. Quality Move Management decided to take another route and donated their player appearances to a deserving local school that is near and dear to our hearts, Admiral Seymour Elementary. These lucky kids were thrilled to receive this special visit from Camps and Clinics Manager Sam Lenarduzzi, Carl Valentine, and players Long Tan and Shea Salinas.
The afternoon started with the school recognizing their boys and girls soccer teams with certificates marking the end of the season. Whitecaps players were on stage to shake hands and give their congratulations. The next 45 minutes were action-packed with player demos and interactive drills that taught volunteer students the basics of soccer with an emphasis on respect, sportsmanship and hard work. The visit was full of fun and laughter as the kids competed in relay dribbling races and watched displays of the players juggling and heading the ball. Following the program, the soccer teams stuck around for a special meet and greet, allowing the kids to get autographs from the players, Sam, and Carl.
This was a unique way for Quality Move Management to leverage their partnership with the Whitecaps, support the community, and inspire a new generation of soccer players that would normally not receive this opportunity.

As we embark on one of our busiest times I’d like to share an email exchange I had with one of our customers over the weekend. In this instance, I’d like to acknowledge the efforts of Sylvia and Darrell Bush and his team. This also serves as an excellent reminder of the importance of our service. Not only do we “move” their furniture but we “ease the load” and remove our customer’s stress around the move. Moving is an incredibly stressful time for people – there is nothing more rewarding and personally satisfying than having the highest level of empathy for our customers and then seeing it all work!
So, to Sylvia and Darrell – a very big thank you for looking after Maarten and Janet and to everyone else a very big thank you for helping to “ease the load” for our customers each and every day! Have a wonderful week everyone!

As we roll in to the busy summer season, our training initiatives have put the breaks on. I am delighted to announce that between January to the end of May, we logged over 1800 training hours with our staff! Thanks to everyone for taking the time to create and present to each department for “All for One”. It helps bring our company together by answering questions about your roles and providing better understanding behind what each department does.
The Customer Care program was a great success with only 5 full time employees unavailable to attend one of the 8 sessions. To keep the Customer Care program and its tips/techniques in the forefront, I have some initiatives planned for September 2011 through to August 2012. Stay tuned for more details in the near future.
Thanks again for everyone’s participation in all the training over the last few months!

Summer is here and along with the increase in temperatures comes an increase in the number of hazards on our nation's highways. Following are some simple reminders for drivers to help them in meeting the challenges of summer driving:
Watch for children. With school in recess use extra caution in residential areas and around playgrounds. When children are playing, their attention is not on safety and they may unexpectedly dart into traffic.
Watch for tourists. Tourists present a roadway hazard because they don't always know how to get where they are going. Watch for motorists who are distracted or reading maps and be prepared for sudden stops or last-minute course changes.
Obey all traffic laws. Always stay within the speed limit and maintain a safe following distance. The faster you drive and the closer you follow, the more difficult it will be to avoid an incident ahead.
Avoid distractions. Inattentive driving plays a significant role in many accidents. Safe driving demands full attention so avoid distractions while driving such as eating, reading and the use of cell phones or other electronic devices.
Wear seat belts. Seat belts save lives and should be worn even on short trips.
Exercise extra caution in Work Zones. Slow down, increase your following distance and stay alert. Pick a lane that will remain open and avoid changing lanes in a Work Zone.
Plan your trip and allow extra time. Leave early and expect delays so you can reach your destination on time. Check the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse at www.workzonesafety.org for information on Work Zone delays throughout the country.
Be patient. Most important, be courteous, patient and expect the unexpected!

I am extremely proud (and excited of course) to let you all know that I accepted two awards for QMM at the Allied US Operations Conference awards dinner last night in Lombard, IL. The first award presented for the evening (in front of over 400 delegates from Allied, North American and SIRVA corporate staff) was for “Outstanding Safety Achievement”. QMM was the “winner” in the Allied large agent group (there are three revenue groups) and I accepted the award from Mark Davison (Director of Safety); Brian Risley (Vice President of Operations); and John Bixler (Director of Operations). You can imagine what a thrill it was for me to be accepting this award for all of us.
My second “trip” to the stage came when QMM was once again (third year in a row!) named Allied’s Cross Border Agent of the Year. Brian Risley acknowledged our team’s effort to support the network and safely move more than 6 million pounds across the border in 2010.
Again, I am so proud of our accomplishments in not only serving our own customers but also supporting the network to the best of our ability.
Thanks to each of you; our front line crews; and owner operators for your dedication and support!

We had a great time in Chicago meeting other agents from across Canada as well as many Allied VIP’s. It was great reconnecting with colleagues and discussing successes and challenges with other agents and sales teams.
It was a full 2 days of training on “Success Selling+” and our class was very engaged. We learned a lot from the many group discussions and role plays that we did. Greg Ford is excellent at teaching how to overcome objections and how to close the sale.
We also had a break-out session where each group met with a pricing committee member and we discussed pricing issues that agents are experiencing. This was very productive and allowed us to let the committee know what we are up against out there in the trenches in regards to estimating, pricing, the D of R and the competition.
Steve McKenna spoke to us regarding the new and exciting Q-LAB. Q-LAB will allow the sales person to price moves right in the home which is very exciting for us here in Canada. It will do many more things including providing sales tools/DVD’s, managing leads, customer relationship management, surveys and pricing. Initial launch for the US will be in early April and in the fall for Canada.
The 2 days were wrapped up with a great banquet and sales award reception. Kevin and Roy were both awarded for their outstanding sales efforts! Congratulations to both of you - What a team!
